Second International Seminar – Crises and Institutions in Latin America and Europe
The second outreach event of the Jean Monnet Network “Crisis-Equity-Democracy in Europe and in Latin America” took place on 30-31 October in the Institute of International Relations of the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil with an international seminar under the title “Crisis and Institutions in Latin America and Europe”. On 31 October the Network held its second internal workshop for organizing the researches. A meeting of the 9 different Monnet Network active in Brazil was also organized by the EU delegation at USP.
The conference examined and compared the economic, social, and political development with a special focus on income disparities, populis and social mobilisation. It compared the different origins and types of crisis, its management, the social and political mobilisation and its impact in Europe and in Latin America.
In a first working session, partners tried to see if comparisons between crisis in Europe and in Latin America are possible and some conceptual analysis were presented from which a method was proposed. The section 2 made comparative analysis and allowed for describing some features both in the causes and the consequences of the crisis as well as for the solutions for reducing the costs of the crisis. In particular, the roles for more citizen participation with more regional cooperation are important component for crisis resolution.
Two other activities were organized, on 31 October, the internal workshop and a general meeting with the other Monnet Networks working in Brazil.
